PHNOM PENH (8 May 2023) – Thailand and Vietnam confirmed their slots to the semifinals of the men’s football event at the SEA Games 2023, following the full points they picked up in their rounds of Group B matches earlier this evening at the Prince Stadium.
Thailand blasted Laos 4-1 while Vietnam edged Malaysia 2-1.
A brace each from Yotsakorn Burapha (2nd and 40th minute) and Teerasak Poeiphimai (5th and 52nd minute) put Thailand well on the way as Laos then pulled a goal back from Roman’s penalty right at the end.
The win gave Thailand the full six points from three matches played as they will now take on Vietnam in two days to decide the group winner and the runners-up team to the next round.
In the meantime, Vietnam’s narrow 2-1 win over Malaysia was enough to guarantee them their place.
Nguyen Van Tung was on the double (7th and 33rd minute) as Malaysia then replied through Aliff Izwan (43rd minute) for the final score line.
