Indonesia fall to Morocco in FIFA U17 World Cup

SURABAYA (16 November 2023) – Indonesia fell to a 3-1 loss to Morocco in their final Group A tie of the FIFA U17 World Cup 2023 earlier this evening at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium.

Two quick goals in the 27th minute and then 39th minute respectively through Anas Alaoui penalty and then Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal’s header put Morocco 2-0 in front.

Nabil Asyura then narrowed the gap with a sublime 42nd minute freekick to beat Moroccan keeper Taha Benrhozil as the score stood at 2-1 at the break.

However, Morocco made sure of their win of Group A and their place in the next round with a Mohamed Zine Hamony finish in the 64th minute.

Ecuador finished as Group A runners-up after holding Panama to a 1-1 draw in the other group game.

With Morocco and Ecuador confirming their slots in the next round, Indonesia’s passage would depend on the results of the groups.

The top two teams of each group and the four best third-placed teams advanced to the Round of 16.
