China, Uzbekistan and South Korea for Vietnam

HANOI (8 October 2023) – Vietnam, under head coach Philippe Troussier, have lined up three tough matches during the next FIFA Match Days to prepare the team for the Second Round qualifiers of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Vietnam will take on China on 10 October 2023 before taking on Uzbekistan three days later (13 October 2023) and the match against South Korea on 17 October 2023.

“I have announced the list of players for the three friendly matches against China, Uzbekistan and South Korea. The initial list had 33 players,” said Troussier.

“The players selected are based on their physical condition and form at the moment. I do not choose players just based on their reputation or name.

“Players who are not selected do not mean they cannot play in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers 2026, the Asian Cup 2023 or the next FIFA Match Days.”

The two matches against China and Uzbekistan will be played in Dalian, China while the game against South Korea will be played in Suwon, South Korea.

However, due to the ruling under FIFA, only two matches can be considered as ‘Tier 1’ – and as such the matches against China and South Korea will be considered as official international friendlies while the game against Uzbekistan is more of a test game.

The Second Round qualifiers of the FIFA World Cup 2026 will be in November 2023.
