PHNOM PENH (18 Sept 2019) – There will be no restriction on women football fans to watch the Iran- Cambodia clash in a Group C tie of the second round qualifiers of the FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifier at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium next month.

Ali Rabiei, the Iranian government spokesman said this week that Iranian women can buy tickets to watch the match between Iran and Cambodia.

“Tickets will go on sale for all females for the match against Cambodia. We cannot ignore the women-related issues. We need to show tolerance and should not create a situation in which a girl like Sahar Khodayari setting herself on fire,” said Rabiei.

According to Hossein Ali Amiri, Vice-President for Parliamentary Affairs, that the Iranian Government has carried out preparatory works for entry of women to the stadiums as soon as possible.

This include special separate gates, special area for women, and services, which are being prepared in all big stadiums of the country as per the guidelines of Masoud Soltanifar, Minister of Sport and Youth.

Women were not permitted to watch Iranian matches for close to 30 years before the Sahar case saw an about turn where in the last year, women have been allowed to watch Iran taking on Bolivia and also Iranian club side Persepolis playing Japan’s Kashima Antlers.
